Kinesiology: An Application for Professionals
(KAAP)

Feedback from the 3-day 'Kinesiology: An Application for Professionals' course:

Before Kinesiology I had tried all sorts of therapies and techniques to cope with my personal problems, and had reached a point where I just accepted that in some cases I was stuck with the problem.  Now I understand why nothing else had worked no matter how hard I tried; and it showed me methods that actually can improve the situation.
I am also a big stress-head, and time is a luxury.  Kinesiology gives me easy and quick relaxation techniques that really work.  And I have integrated some of the correction techniques in my daily life as a 'warm-up' to loosen up and prepare myself for the day.
As most of the patients I see in my naturopathic clinic suffer from stress, I can also use Kinesiology to calm them down, so that they are more rational about the problems they come to see me.  I can show them simple relaxation techniques they can use in all kinds of stressful situations and nearly anywhere without being obvious to others.
The correction procedures are easy to understand, useful to improve physical as well as mental and emotional problems that often go together and they assist in finding the underlying reasons for a condition.
It has helped me to understand and help friends who had been dealing with the same problems over and over again for years so that I was close to loose patience with them, not understanding why they didn't move on after we had talked about the same situation a hundred times.  Understanding the blockages between logical and emotional brain was a real eye opener.

During the KAAP course I used my mother as a client for several case studies. We started with ‘that fish slapping, witchcraft stuff doesn’t work’, despite balancing her crippling fear of spiders and bugs, bad headaches, fatigue and an inability to sleep at night. She still wasn’t convinced that Kinesiology worked. Mum had been having trouble with back pain; due to an extra vertebrae in her back, and wearing high heels at work for extended periods. She had been to several therapists including physio’s, massage therapists, and tried medications for pain. We decided to work on balancing her back problem and poor sleeping habits. The next day she felt so fantastic that she wore heels to work—first time in 18months,  “No pain” She excitedly announced. Her back behaved itself for about 12 weeks after that balance, and while she still has occasional problems/pain, She will ask  ‘Please can you do Kinesiology on me’. Her sleeping has improved too.

Last week (early September 2008), mum took the whole week off work as she came down with the flu & a sinus infection. By Saturday afternoon she had retired to the couch with a fever. Somewhat a skeptic, but obviously desperate to try anything she asked ‘Can you do that Kinesi-stuff on me? Will that help make me better?’. I replied it certainly wouldn’t hurt.  I think I spent about 30-40 minutes using a variety of kinesiology techniques.  Mum fell asleep during the first 5 minutes or so, and when I was finished, She put herself to bed. The next day, her symptoms had all disappeared, she felt more energetic, and cancelled the Doctors appointment she had made. She was very surprised.

I have been using the skills used in the KAAP course since the first of the three workshop days with my swimming squad kids. The changes I have seen &  the comments I have had from other coaches,  parents (& swimmers) have been very positive. Now, I just need to point to a swimmer and call ‘out’ and they jump out & stand on poolside to happily receive a balance. Returning to pool training, there are significant improvements in technique- coordination, stroke count, speed, and the swimmers are less ‘stressed’ about the difficulty of the program they are completing.

Last term I employed kinesiology techniques on several students who have since progressed up to the next learn to swim level. The students’ parents have all made comments about their lack of significant progress this term, and several parents have requested I take their children again, so that they can continue to learn and improve.

A parent of a Squad kid I have coached has taken up swimming competitively in the AUSSIE masters, One particular night I commented on her need to breathe bilaterally so improve her technique and speed. She wasn’t able to do it. With my squad happily training, I told Jenny to get out of the pool, and took her through the Ezi-Kinesi techniques I have used previously with my squad. My swimmers finished their program; stood at the wall chiming ‘we know what you are doing…’. After a while, Jenny got back into the pool, and swam freestyle breathing bilaterally, without swallowing water, lifting her head awkwardly, with ease; she was so excited after swimming for another 10 minutes she exited the pool and gave me a big wet hug!

I cannot speak highly enough how “in tune” I feel with understanding and being more aware of the patients I look after since having done the course.  I was always caring and spent time trying to calm their stress level, but now I feel like I’ve just gone up a notch and feel more focused and clicked into their emotional state.  Boy is it so much more rewarding for me too!  Before I noticed I was a bit shy to try different things for calming my patients – NOW I just get in there and feel more confident (probably because I understand the reasons for what I am doing) and I know its working.

My work colleagues are also benefiting and this is making us all much closer and subsequently allowing a better working environment for all.  I seem to notice now when someone has a headache or sore back or feeling sad or stressed and I say I can help you.  Just the feel of touch shows you care and will give a feeling of health and well-being which is what the aim of kinesiology is.

The following are various comments from nurses, counsellors and other professionals who attended this course at the Royal Adelaide Hospital through the staff development training:

Very positive, encouraging training fostering our development.  The course was very well planned with an excellent combination of adult learning principles (eg practical, written materials, visual, discussion time...).  I felt very comfortable to ask any questions I had and all my questions were answered - I just need to practice, practice, practice!

Great learning environment!!! Really recommend to anyone & everyone.

This course opened my eyes to understand Kinesiology, a very interesting complementary therapy!!!
